Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD)
PTSD is an Anxiety Disorder that can occur to people who have experienced or witnessed a single traumatic event (simple PTSD) or multiple , prolongued traumas (complex PTSD)

People with a diagnosis of PTSD experience intense, disturbing memories and feelings related to the traumatic event. They might relieve the event through flashbacks, nightmares or sudden waves of feelings. They often feel detached from others and tend to isolate. They often develop behaviours aimed at avoiding their emotions and their memories.

The combination of CBT techniques and EMDR have proven to be an effective treatment plan, that in a relatively short length of time can achieve long lasting relief.

What is EMDR
Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) is a form of therapy used to relieve psychological distress associated with painful memories or events. It is successfully applied to the treatment of PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder)

During an EMDR session, the client is encouraged to recall distressing memories while the therapist directs bilateral stimulation in a rhythmic side-to-side pattern (with eye movements or hand tapping, for example). The eye movements help the overwhelmed brain by restoring the natural ability to heal and to process distressing events and their negative meaning.
